The African Centre for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL), in collaboration with AI Collective Nigeria and the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), will on Thursday, August 13, 2026, host a webinar on “AI, Accountability & Citizens: Understanding Artificial Intelligence Through Real-Life Whistleblowing Stories.”
The webinar, scheduled for 6:00pm to 7:30pm WAT, is the first of two public webinars on AI awareness which form part of the deliverables for the AI Collective project managed by CJID. The project aims to increase public awareness of AI and its societal implications, and improve citizen understanding of the opportunities, risks, and ethical considerations associated with AI. It is targeted at the youth aged between 18-35, students, young professionals, CSO, community leaders, journalists, and civic activists.
The webinars will examine the intersection of artificial intelligence, ethics, citizen engagement and whistleblowing, with experts sharing insights from real-life experiences.
The first session will explore how AI can support citizens and accountability efforts while dissecting the ethical and practical challenges posed by the technology.
The panel will feature Stanley Olaleke, Panel Host and Project Lead, AI, Accountability & Citizens Project, AFRICMIL; Prof. Tajudeen H. Sikiru, Professor of Systems Engineering, ABU Zaria; Stella Uzochukwu-Dennis, Technovation Regional Ambassador and Girls-in-Tech Advocate; and Crispin Oduobuk, Senior Programme Officer (Policy & Advocacy), AFRICMIL.
